Most toddlers at an early age dont have the coordination to turn their wrist when bringing the spoon to their mouth. so the arc in the handle makes it easier for them. The spoon is deep so it holds more and the holes make it less likely for the food to spill. Remember not to use it for cereal and milk or other foods with thin gravies. My 15 month old has trouble with his baby spoons (most are too small to hold much and not deep enough to retain the food). He can hold onto the handle of this and the countour makes him hold it right side up. The holes in the spoon are great, applesauce stays in much better than with a regular spoon. Holes prevent food from sliding as toddlers bring the spoon to their mouth. The curved handle is not long enough though. It needs to be maybe 20% longer. Otherwise, a great training spoon.
