Pagemaker is essential for layout, Illustrator is essential for design. Photoshop is a great program for photo editing, and of course, Acobat is what I use to pdf design proofs to customers. If you are just starting out in the field and want to start your own design business, I highly recommend this package. It is a great deal, and it has the most professional programs used in design today.
