Summary: Bad experience
Comment: I had a poor experience with this product. It came with several defects (a flat tire, and a broken battery pole). They did send repalcements but the battery pole is not an easy fix). Then, the first time I used it it ran thru one tank of gas and then did not work thereafter (this was a problem since I was dry camping). It turned out that there was a defective spark plug and it cost me $45 to get it fixed. Despite the fact that it was the first time I used it (beyond testing that it worked when I recieved it), I was informed that it was beyond the 30 day warranty so they did not accept any responsibility. Then I found my other tire was flat and again it was not replaced because it was beyond 30 days.

Summary: Good quality, quiet, reasonable price
Comment: Purchased as an emergency home generator. I haven't had to use it for any real power outage, but I have run it several times and loaded it up to near the rated capacity, letting it run long enough to get fully warmed up.
I have been very pleased. It starts easily, and runs fairly quiet. From inside the house, I can barely hear it. If I ran it 15 or 20 feet from my bedroom window (double pane), I don't think it would interfere with my sleep.
I shopped around quite a bit for generators, and I think this is a good price for a relatively quiet generator (69 db). I assume those that don't give a noise rating probably have poor ratings.

Summary: Best in it's Class
Comment: I purchased this generator October 2008, from [...] for US [...] including shipping. I highly recommend not only this generator, but this site. Dale Thum has been great to work with, and when the free cover was not shipped, he sent it immediately.
The generator started very easily (I didn't opt for a silly electric start). It ran continuously for 6 hours on 1.5 gallons of gas with 200W load. A Honda Generator may be great, but how much better can it be for [...]dollars more! I'm going to use this for emergencies, and the occasional off site work project. I don't need to spend that kind of money.
There are some things to know if you buy this generator. First, there is some assembly required(the handles, wheels, stanchions and removal of shipping bar) so get out the tools. Second, they recommend grounding it by using a copper rod pushed into the ground and connected via 12-14AWG wire to the grounding screw on the front of the generator. While this may not be necessary to operate the unit, it is very adviseable since you have rubber wheels and rubber stoppers and therefore no grounding of the generator to anything but you. If it were to short or pass a current the only path is to the ground through YOU! Be aware that you will need the rod (or a copper pipe worked for me), and the wire, and additional [...] is what it cost me. Also You have to have oil and a funnel with a long spout to put in the crankcase before operation of course, and they say only to use fuel 88 octane or better. That means you need to buy premium grade (mid-grade) fuel. That took me a little more time as I don't use that in my mowers, etc., and had to go get it. After all those things, I was able to start it up, and we were makin' power!
Again, after lots of shopping and looking at the reviews, this is the Generator I bought and would recommend, and ToolCity.com is where I'd get it!

Summary: And she just kept on coming on!!
Comment: 15 days without power would have been my destiny had it not been for the PwrMax4400E. Not only was it the quietest generator of all the gen sets running in my cul-de-sac, it lasted the longest time (12 hours @50%load) of all the rest on 4 gallons of fuel. After unpacking, fueling and adding the oil...I turned the key and it was all heaven from then on, I did use the pull crank to make sure it worked and it started on the first pull. She ran 12 hours with a 2-3 hour cooling off period in between shifts. It ran a huge Refridgerator/freezer, a small chest freezer, a 5500 BTU window A/C, several fans,2 lamps,a 31"TV, Boombox, and phone chargers. All without a hiccup. Followed the directions , plugged in the highest wattage first, kept the oil topped off and finally changed it after 15 days of use and it wasnt that dirty. This gen set was awesome and the best money I have ever spent for creature comforts. I would highly recommend this generator to anyone in need and as a matter of fact a couple neighbors did replace their older noisier models for a PowerMax after seeing what mine did. Planning on getting the bigger 10,000 watt surge Powermax for next years' hurricane season and power up right to the house CB box with a switch box.I was amazed and impressed. Loved the fact that it didnt require frequent oil changes as some gen sets do. 5 stars *****
