Summary: Great space heater
Comment: I've been using this for a week now. Works very well and it is very quiet. Only nits are the brightness of the LED and the fact that it forgets the heat settings when you un-plug to move it around. It you plan to move your heater around a lot go for one of the analog Vornado models.

Summary: Worth the money - "fix" for Sony TV remotes
Comment: I've purchased a multitude of cheap space heaters for my finished basement over the years. Most have broken down for one reason or another within two years. I've had this Vornado for over two years now and it's has been excellent. A quick read of the features will point out how it differs from conventional space heaters. Because of how well it circulates air, I also use it as a regular fan during the summer.

Loses a star for one reason, the Sony TV remote problem. I just picked up a Sony flat-screen unknowing that lowering the volume on the TV's remote lowers the temperature control on the heater. A detailed web search after the fact confirmed the problem from multiple sources, but unveiled no solutions.

Not willing to accept defeat and guessing Vornado customer support would be of no help, I found a simple "try at your own risk" solution to this. The IR sensor lives behind the red light that is on the top-front of the heater's control panel. A small piece of electrical tape over that light blocks the remote's IR signal, at least from certain angles. Granted, this prevents use of the heater's remote, but I never used it to begin with.

You'll pay a premium for this unit, but it's well worth the money.

Summary: Finally foud the heater that warms up my family room!
Comment: My house has floor heating downstairs which is very expensive to run. We spend our time mainly in the family room but only have one Thermostat for the whole of downstairs. To save on energy costs this winter I decided to look for a space heater. Over the last 2 weeks I've tried 5 different heaters and was not satisfied with any of them until I brought home the Vornado 500!

The cons I would say are it's fairly expensive and has a couple of design faults with the display. The display light is very bright and you will probably need to cover the display if you plan to use it while sleeping. Also, the display is on the top of the heater. Having a remote is kind of pointless if you can't see what you're changing.

The pros are is it heats up the room well, has plenty of safety features, is very quiet, is not made of cheap material and is also backed by a 2 year warranty.

Every other heater I tried would trip the circuit breaker on high setting even if the only other things on were the TV and Satellite Box. The Vornado does not. I've tried switcing all the electrical items that use the same circuit on at the same time and it still doesn't trip it. I guess that's becasue the Vornado will reduce its heat level and fan speed once it get's close to your desired temperature. Whatever the reason it's great not to lose power in the middle of a movie and having to go into the freezing cold garage to reset the fuses.

I also tried this heater in one of the rooms in the house that just had the weatherstripping removed. It did not do a good job. Once I replaced the weatherstripping it heated up the whole room.

So in summary I highly recommend this heater as a solution for the lack of having zone heating. If your room has a draft fix that first and then this will totally be worth the money!

Summary: I like it but it broke
Comment: Update - 2 months after bought it - it broke, the fan intermittently stops running & the heat stays on so it starts burning itself up, it filled the room with strong burning smell/smoke. NOT safe.

Summary: Scary!
Comment: We have been using this heater for about 5 months now in our infant daughter's room. Up until last night, the product was fine. Last night we could smell a burning smell from outside of her room coming from the heater! The heater has never been moved and is always set to the same temperature so we are not sure what happened. Needless to say, this was extremely scary and we won't be using it anymore! All reviews I've read for the product are generally good so perhaps this is a fluke.

The LCD light on the top is also very bright and annoying - it never turns off.
