Summary: great game
Comment: the graphics are vastly improved over last year and the general game presentation is a lot better. Not a lot of improvements but if you're an avid sports gamer this title is worth picking up if not you'll probably be all right with last year's version.

Summary: NBA 2K9
Comment: The game is amazing, the best basketball game for the PS3 that I have tried. Ordering from Amazon was a little frusterating this time. Although the shipping was considered free, the US Postal Service took twice as long as UPS or FedEx. Also, I tried ordering something else to include with this order almost immediately after placing it. Amazon said the order was already filled and I couldn't add anything else even though it didn't ship for 4 more days.

Summary: Get NBA 2k9 !!
Comment: NBA 2k series has always been my favorite basketball video game. 2K9 brings the greatest basketball simulation that exceed their predecessor. You have to put a lot of effort to score a basket. I found it hard to win a game relying on one player driving all around the court like what I did on 2k7 or 2k8. The defense is more competitive with the offense since the D-Lock on feature from 2k8.
The graphic is really nice compare to NBA live 09. I tried the Live 09 demo, the players look skinny, but have a better detail on the player graphics. However, the game play itself the 2k9 still way ahead the NBA live 09.

The only downside for 2k9 is that the create player face is really hard to be customized. Most of the created players faces who have the same race are just look the same.

Overall, I 2k9 is worth of your money. I played this game almost everyday and I never get tired of it.

Summary: I shudder to think about how many times this game has frozen my PS3.
Comment: Simply an unacceptable release of an unready product. When you finally manage to successfully launch a game online, the inexcusably awful and arbitrary free-throw shooting mechanism almost renders the game unplayable. Winning a close game basically boils down to who's feeling more hot at the charity stripe. Also why can't we challenge our friends online? That's an absurd downgrade from every prior version of NBA 2K with online capability. I'm going to check out NBA Live this year for the first time in ages. If that's no good, I shall forego video game basketball this year.

Edit: Another disappointment I forgot to mention is that 2K removed the best 2 camera options (in my opinion) when you play online: the 2K and Drive camera views. This is especially rough for someone like me who's gotten hooked on the overhead, 180 degree rotating view. The only reasonable option left is the side view (e.g. NBA JAM) which I haven't used in an NBA game since at least the year 2000.

Summary: Great Game
Comment: I used to be an NBA Live fan and other EA Sports game, mainly Madden. But I remember playing demos when I bought the PS3 and was comparing what I like better. There was NBA 2K7, NBA Live 07, and NBA 07. 2K7 just was just more realistic to me and had better gameplay. I play it with my little brother and friends, and it's just the small details that make it better then the rest. Players wear their signature shoes and even the real shots that players do. Especially Shawn Marion's horrible looking jumper.

2K8 was fun last year as well, except that lockdown feature really was broken. I can be Shaq and guard Tony Parker or Allen Iverson just by holding down a button. This one improves ont he lockdown defense and none of that Shaq on any point guard defense.

A few things I noticed, which is the same problem 2K8 had, is goaltending is way off. The ball will bounce off the rim or backboard and someone would touch it after and get called goaltending. This usually happens only once every 5 games in 2K8, but already it has happened in about 2 or 3 times in every game I played. Not sure what is up with that.

Also I don't understand what's with all the confusing menus. The menus also was bad, but they tried to change it and seem to have made it worst.

The one main feature that is missing and I don't understand why is, Sixaxis control for the PS3. I don't understand why this was taken out, were they too lazy? Just trying please everyone and make it exactly the same as the 360 version. I mean that's what set it apart from the other games. And made the free throw feel a lot more "real" then using an analog or watching a ball bounce across the backboard. Last year you can either have it on or off so the choice was yours, if you didn't like it. This has thrown me off, and I still hold the controller with 2 hand awaiting to throw a free throw when I realized that it doesn't work. So what was wrong with it? I can't imagine people complaining because you were able to turn it off. Now it's just gone........

Overall the gameplay is fun and better then the other NBA games. I only tried the demos for Live and 09.

The online I haven't tried much, I usually have people in the same room to play with........ But if you don't have anyone to play with and need online, I guess it would suck if it freezes like all the other reviews said. I will give it a try later.
