Summary: My 2 Cents...
Comment: I read all the reviews and still bought this unit. I'm not 100% happy but I can live with it. The only things that bug me are the lack of EQ (but "night mode" and "bass booster off" will turn down the low rumbling of the subwoofer), no HDMI input (only output), and specialized SONY connectors at the back of the receiver (can't just stick any speaker wires in the back of the receiver). Performance wise, this unit has good 1080P upscaling for playing standard DVDs (I have a Panasonic PT-AE2000U projector and the standard video coming out of this DVD player is as good as my PS3--I can't tell the difference so I'm happy), sound is crystal clear, and I have no problem with the S-AIR receiver as far as interference is concern (I have a 2.4GHZ wireless router and of course two cell phones in the house). I noticed that if a DVD movie has no surround sound content, there will be no output to the surround sound speakers unless you manually select the audio decoding to PRO LOGIC II or other type of decoding scheme that comes with the system (there's about 4 or 5) to enables sounds to all the speakers. Overall, I'm keeping this unit. I mounted the two front speakers on the wall and used the speaker stands for the two surround sound speakers in the back. Last but not least, this unit cannot play Blue Ray discs so if you plan to use your PS3 or other players for Blue Ray, you will need a digital optical audio cable to enjoy the full sound effects of your Blue Ray movies.

Summary: What Do You Want For 400.00? A Rubber Biscuit?
Comment: I'm thinking of getting this system because I am downsizing and my older system is way to big for my new condo. Advances in technology with audio fidelity in IC amps have really made home audio a lot more affordable and still decent sounding. I saw this reviewed on the G4 Network's show called Attack Of The Show and was wow, that would work out nice with the wireless speakers and match it to a 50'sh inch flat screen and I'm good to go! For under 1,500 with the TV in High Def, amazing! I sold "high" end audio and video for 10+ years from the late 80's to early 2000's, when a plasma would go for 10,000-20,000 alone about 7-8 years ago. I laughed out loud when Attack Of The Show said it was an OK system but kind of pricey! I said WHAT? you have got to be joking! Then I see what has to be the longest review I've ever seen on Amazon and its on a 400.00 HTIB system! LOL, people, it's 400.00! If you want a powered sub then get a powered sub! This is for people like me who have neighboors close by and want a lot of bang for the buck. Hell, if I'm not crazy about it after I get it I'll put it in the bedroom! 400.00, what a deal! The Japanese really killed the audio market though didn't they? That and people who would devote months of their time on a 400.00 system but not blink an eye on a 7.00 cup of coffee at starbucks everyday! I don't work in sales anymore because I saw the writing on the wall, people who would write 30,000 word reviews would kill an hour of my non compensated time to pick my brain, click onto best buy.com or amazon.com and buy it! No thanks! LOL. Oh and save the 30,000 nit picking word reviews for something that costs more then a days pay, ok?

Summary: its just ok....
Comment: just got this about two weeks ago. its just an ok system. the speakers suck, the bass is really bad. the wireless speaker system shuts down if someone gets a phone call. the over all sound is not so good, sounds more like your in a acoustic hall instead of a theater, no rich sounds come out of it. total lack of adjustments for sound or speakers. a $50.00 boombox sounds better, why i only gave 2 stars. the dvd is ok, its pretty average not good or bad. the remote is terrible though. i thought this system would go well with my sony LCD tv, boy was i wrong. its easy to hook up i will give them that. my sony TV is very nice and good quality, thought their home theater system should be of good quality too, nope i was wrong. stay away from their sound systems they dont even toss in cables to hook it up. lack of inputs sucks too, i knew that going in so can not knock them for that. there are so many better options out there for less money. two weeks in and i am already thinking about what i should upgrade to when bluray's pricing comes down, because you can not hook up a bluray or anything else to it. i know my upgrade will not be a sony system thats for sure. looks like i will upgrading sooner than i thought. the wireless speakers working and not working is very irritating, even when they work they sound like crap which also irritating. over all this system has more irritating things about it then enjoyable thing...

Summary: Not for quality sound, but for special effects.
Comment: Having done a lot of research on this genre ( DVD surround sound system) what I find disapointing is the lack of quality accoustics coming from the speakers. Yes, they look cool around my room, especially the tall back speakers placed on stands. It is not what I consider high fidelity, in fact, the sound reproduction is quite poor. I'm a performing musician, so I demand a bit more from anything in the nature of sound reproduction. Forget sweeping strings, or clear, focussed lows, say goodbuy to crispy, textured highs. Don't buy these for sound, buy them for sound effects! Watch a DVD and be amazed when something sounds from behind you or far to the left, or almost hits you between the eyes. It's a folly artists dream...enjoy thoroughly the effects of sound and how it is presented and directed, but not the actual sound as it is reproduced.

Summary: GOOD SYSTEM FOR THE PRICE.
Comment: RECEIVED THE SYSTEM AND ONLY CHECKED IT TO SEE IF IT WORKED OK.
THE UNIT IS ENOUGH FOR THE ROOM AND THE SOUND IS GOOD, CONSIDERING THE PRICE
